Privacy and your data
A plain summary of the data we keep and how long each piece lives. The full text and the conditions of use are on the terms page.
- Files: 48 hours for guests and 7 days for members. Deleting your account removes them immediately. A guest file is stored on the third-party service tmpfiles.org, not on our servers.
- Notes: the text is encrypted in your browser before saving and opens only through its own link, so the server does not read the original. The clipboard is stored encrypted too, but because a clip has to open on another device it is decrypted on the server when revealed. If a note or clip is reported, it is opened for an abuse review.
- Temp email: each inbox closes one hour after creation and its messages are removed by the scheduled cleanup, so the exact removal time may drift a little. The inbox creator IP is recorded.
- Tools: what you type is not stored on our server, unless you press a share button yourself. The two network tools (IP check and DNS lookup) send that request's IP or domain name to a public service.
- Account email: used for verification codes and account notices, and never sold. Dashboard alerts and the email newsletter are two separate switches in your account; every news email carries a one-click unsubscribe link.
Frequently asked
What data is stored about me?
Your username, your email if you gave one, your files and encrypted notes, and the technical records needed for security and quotas.
Can anyone read my note?
The body, no: it is encrypted in the browser and opens only through its own link. The title you type is not encrypted and stays on the server so the note can be recognised, so keep anything sensitive in the body, not in the title. If a note is reported, it is opened for an abuse review.
How do I delete everything?
Open your account section and choose “delete account”: enter your password and username and your files, notes, links and clips are removed immediately and permanently, so it cannot be undone; expired items are also removed by the scheduled cleanup.
