Check an Image’s Size, Dimensions & Format

Before uploading an image to a site or sending it on, know what you are dealing with: how many kilobytes it is, its real pixel dimensions and its actual format. This inspector reads that straight from the file and shows the picture too, so you can be sure it is the right one. It helps spot oversized photos, check a thumbnail’s dimensions and catch a file whose extension does not match its real type. Everything is local; nothing is uploaded.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Drop or choose the image.

  2. 2

Read the name, type, size and dimensions in the column beside it.

  3. 3

If the size or dimensions are wrong, move on to the resize or compress tool from the same page.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the information come from?

From the file itself: name and size from the filesystem, dimensions from decoding the image in the browser. No server is involved.

How can I tell if the extension is honest?

The type field is what the browser actually detected. A file named .jpg that reports PNG has simply been renamed.

Does this tool modify the image?

No, it only reads it. Use the resize and compress tools when you want to change it.
