Compress Images Online at Any Quality

This compressor re-encodes the image in your browser and leaves quality to you, from 10 to 100 percent. Before you download, it shows the file size before and after so the saving is visible. The pixel dimensions stay the same; only the encoded data shrinks. It suits photos that have to fit a site, an email or an upload form, and unlike upload-based services the file never leaves your device. Note that a PNG is written as JPEG so the quality control has an effect, which drops transparency; if transparency matters, use the convert tool with PNG output instead.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. 1

Drop a photo in the box, or click and pick it from your device.

  2. 2

Set the quality with the slider; 60 to 80 percent is a good balance for the web.

  3. 3

Compare the before and after size, then press download.

Frequently asked questions

What quality should I choose?

For the web, 60 to 80 percent is usually visually indistinguishable and cuts the size several times over. For print or archiving, stay above 90 percent.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Reading, compressing and building the output file all happen in the browser; the network sees no request for your file.

Why did my transparency disappear?

Because quality-controlled compression is written as JPEG, which has no transparency. To keep it, use the convert tool with PNG or WebP output.
