SHA-256, SHA-1, SHA-384 & SHA-512 Hash Generator
This tool computes a cryptographic digest with the browser’s Web Crypto API and supports SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512. A hash is one-way: text becomes a fixed-length string, but the string cannot be turned back into the text. That makes it useful for checking data integrity, comparing two versions of the same text and fingerprinting content. Input is read as UTF-8, so Persian text hashes correctly too. This version takes text input; it does not hash files.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to any server.
How to use it
- 1
Type or paste the text; the digest updates as you go.
- 2
Choose the algorithm; SHA-256 is the default and fits most jobs.
- 3
Copy the hash and compare it with the reference value; a single different character means the data changed.
Frequently asked questions
Can a hash be turned back into the original text?
No. A hash is one-way and the input cannot be reconstructed from it; the only route is hashing guesses and comparing results.
Why does my hash differ from another tool’s?
Almost always a trailing space or newline, or a different character encoding (UTF-8 vs ANSI). Any extra character changes the digest completely.
Can I hash a file?
Not in this version; the input is text only. Use your operating system’s command line, or the checksum published next to the file.
