Unity Save Reader — PlayerPrefs & YAML Inspector

Unity keeps a game's simple values in PlayerPrefs and the rest of its state in YAML text files. On Windows, PlayerPrefs live in the registry under the company and game keys; export that branch from regedit as a .reg file and open it here. On Android the same values sit in the shared_prefs folder of the package, which is just XML. The tool takes each value's type from the file rather than guessing: a registry dword is an integer and its signed reading is shown too, four hex bytes are a little-endian 32-bit float, hex(b) is a 64-bit integer and hex(2) is UTF-16 text; anything else stays a byte list instead of becoming a wrong number. Unity YAML files (.asset, .prefab, .unity and .meta) open document by document: you see the class, the fileID, the fields, vectors and {fileID: …} references. This tool only reads: nothing is edited or re-encoded and the output is a JSON file. No file is uploaded and everything runs in the browser.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. 1

Drop a .reg export, an Android shared_prefs file or a Unity YAML file into the box; if you have no file yet, open one of the three samples.

  2. 2

Check the detected format and the key table; search jumps straight to a key or value, and in a YAML file you can open each document.

  3. 3

Use Download JSON to keep the same data for a diff or a backup; your original file is never touched.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find Windows PlayerPrefs?

In regedit go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software, find the company key and then the game. Right-click the game key and choose Export; the .reg file you get opens here. If the game used PlayerPrefs.SetInt and SetFloat, the values are those dwords and four-byte hex entries.

Why does a float look slightly off?

Unity stores floats as 32-bit, so a value like 0.8 is not exactly 0.8 in that format. The tool shows seven significant digits, which is what the game itself sees, and puts the raw bytes next to it.

Can I edit the values?

Not in this version. Reading is the safe half: your file stays untouched and the JSON export is for diffs, documentation or backups. Editing PlayerPrefs has to happen in the right place for each platform.

Which Unity YAML files work?

.asset, .prefab, .unity and .meta files that start with a %YAML header or a --- !u! document marker. The parser reads the subset Unity itself writes: block maps, sequences, {} and [] flow collections and plain scalars. A line it cannot understand is skipped, never guessed, and integers beyond 2^53 stay as exact digits so a fileID cannot be rounded.
